Research & Growth Plan

A 21-week plan to take a 76-subscriber channel to the YouTube monetization bar before the watch-hour thresholds double. Built from live channel data, 19 competitor channels, 409 TikToks, 712 posts on X and the current keyword market.

The breakout. 973 views, 50 likes, 8 comments, 22 minutes. It compares the official explanation with the evidence and concedes the points that hold up. No competitor channel does this, and it is the reason the rest of this plan is worth running. Watch on YouTube

Summary

The verdict

Read this first. Everything after it is the evidence.

  1. The niche is growing and the small-channel slot is empty. “Tartaria” search demand is 60,500/month in the US and rising 22% year over year. YouTube search for it is up 24% and peaked in March 2026. Of the three dedicated sub-20k channels found, two are dormant. Only one (Tartaria History, 15,400 subs) still posts.
  2. Tara’s writing is the asset. The breakout video (973 views, 50 likes, 5.1% like rate) compares official explanations with the evidence and concedes points (Chicago’s street-raising is documented engineering). None of the 19 profiled believer channels frames titles or descriptions this way; the one channel that does (This House, “I Studied the Evidence for Tartaria”, 39k views) is a 353k mainstream channel. Evidence-first is a retention and policy asset, not a traffic multiplier on its own. Note the simpler cause for the 973: it was the first upload, which YouTube tests hardest. Both can be true.
  3. The packaging is what is failing, not the content. Five different channel names are in use. Thumbnails are three-line red-text collages. Titles run 60-80 characters and get cut at 55 on mobile. There are no chapters, no uploaded captions, and every video carries the same boilerplate tags. Winners use one sepia photo, a year stamp, and a 40-55 character title.
  4. Length is wrong for the monetization math. Winners run 20-40 minutes. Tara’s median is 11 minutes and five uploads are 3-5 minute cut-downs that pulled 14-40 views each. Those belong in Shorts, not long-form.
  5. The topics already work at scale in short-form. “Why do 1800s photos look empty?” did 2.07M views on TikTok. “Incubator baby sideshow” did 1.75M. Orphan trains did 936k. Tara has long-form videos on all three. Her four YouTube Shorts got 19-84 views because they were not built as vertical-first content.
  6. Monetization risk is the AI-template rule, not the topic. YouTube names no alt-history category in its enforced misinformation policies. The July 2025 “inauthentic content” rule demonetizes whole channels that look templated. Tara’s personal, evidence-weighing narration is the defence. Keep it.
  7. Target: Early Access (500 subs + 3,000 watch hours in 90 days) before 2027-02-01. That is 21 weeks away. On Feb 1, 2027 the watch-hour and Shorts-view bars double (3,000 to 6,000 hours for Early Access; 4,000 to 8,000 for full); the subscriber bars stay. Getting the hours in before then is the whole game, and hours come from length and one breakout, not from cadence.

What is working

  • The script voice.Evidence-first, concedes counter-arguments, still delivers the mystery. From the breakout: “Chicago establishes two facts. One, buried urban architecture is very real. Two, it can be produced through documented engineering.”
  • The topic cluster.Orphan trains, foundlings, incubator babies, world’s fairs, 1871 fires, empty cities. Every one has a proven 100k+ video on a competitor channel or a 1M+ TikTok.
  • The origin story. The About text (“created in memory of my father, a lifelong historian”) is a real differentiator that no video uses yet.
  • Thumbnail consistency.Recent thumbnails have a consistent house style. The style is the wrong style, but consistency is a habit already built.

What is broken

  1. Five names.Channel name “Lost Old World History”; handle @LostOldWorldHistory; description “Old World Tartaria Archives”; description CTA “Subscribe to Old World History Archive”; spoken sign-off “This is Old World Investigations” (also a tag). A viewer cannot search for the channel by the name they heard.
  2. Thumbnails.Three lines of red bold text over postcard collages. Competitor winners (Tartaria Vault 659k, Erased Century 481k, Tartaria History 364k, Buried Century 278k) are a single sepia archival photo with a year stamp or at most four words.
  3. Titles.60-80 characters, keyword prefix with a stray space (“Tartaria : ...”), slashes as separators. Mobile shows the first 48-55 characters. “Tartaria Population Reset: Orphan Trains, Incubator Babies & Cabbage P” is what the viewer sees.
  4. Tags.A boilerplate block (“tartaria, mudfloods, great reset, repopulation, cabbage patch kids, ancient civilizations”) rides on nearly every video, including “cabbage patch kids” on the world’s fair video and “repopulation, ancient civilizations” on the Peshtigo fire. Irrelevant tags dilute search relevance.
  5. No chapters, no uploaded captions. Both are free retention and search signals. The scripts already exist.
  6. Cannibalization.Four videos on orphans, foundlings and incubators in six days (Aug 15-21). YouTube tested them against each other.
  7. Cut-downs as long-form.Five uploads at 3-5 minutes (Peshtigo, Baby Farms, Why Lie, Cabbage Patch, Incas) took the long-form slot and got 14-40 views.
  8. No end-of-video chain. The breakout ends “I hope you enjoyed” with no named next video and no end screen pointing anywhere.
  9. Shorts not vertical-first.Four Shorts, 19-84 views, no Related-video link to the long-form.

Views per video

One video carries 58% of all channel views. The chart is the argument for re-packaging: sixteen videos never got tested at scale.

Market demand

The search market is not the problem. Demand for the core keyword is rising, and the two biggest-volume topics are ones Tara has already covered once with weak packaging. Volume is not intent, though: see the notes on agartha and firmament.

The top slots belong to mainstream explainers and two believer channels. A 353k mansion-history channel (This House) posted “I Studied the Evidence for Tartaria” and took 39k views in a month. The evidence-first middle lane is open, and Tara’s stated positioning already sits in it.

Thumbnail grammar

One current thumbnail beside the single best-performing thumbnail in the niche. The difference is not craft. It is grammar.

  • Three lines of red display text competing for the same eye.
  • A collage of four postcards, so no single subject owns the frame.

What the top 40 have in common

  • Duration 45-180 seconds, median 88 s.
  • Real human voice, first person. No flat text-to-speech in the top 15 transcripts.
  • Bold all-caps banner in the top third, phrased as a claim or a question.
  • The hook is a declarative claim or a discovery, not a question: “If you still think we’re the first advanced civilization, this will change your mind.”
  • 2-4 topic hashtags plus one reach tag. Suspense or piano mood bed, not trending audio.
  • Instagram is nearly unclaimed: most niche creators have dormant or no Instagram. The one who posts there (sybervisions_) averages 2.6x their TikTok views on Instagram.

Reddit

Seventy-six on-topic posts and 749 comments. The core sub is quarantined and small. The money is next door, in r/AlternativeHistory.

Coverage caveat

r/Tartaria is quarantined by Reddit, and the quarantine interstitial made subreddit-listing scrapes time out. Only one clean pass succeeded. Real vote counts exist for 18 posts. Search-endpoint results return no vote fields and are ranked only by Reddit’s “top” order. Treat the engagement numbers below as partial.

One striking image with a “this does not look right” caption beats galleries and text. No text-only post reached the top 18. That is the format for the Phase 2 distribution posts. Nobody on Reddit talks about specific creators: the niche is image-driven, not personality-driven, which favors a channel whose thumbnails are one strong photograph.

Skeptic counter-arguments seen

  • Piri Reis map misconceptions (93 upvotes, links an r/MapPorn debunk).
  • “You’re asking for the definition of fossilisation” (65 upvotes).
  • Coal formation is a known process (10 upvotes).
  • “Flat Earth is dead so they needed something stupider”, a recurring dismissal in r/HighStrangeness.
  • r/HighStrangeness automod: “open-minded skepticism welcomed, close-minded debunking is not.”

Platform rules that shape the plan

Every rule below has a live source. The monetization clock is the one that sets the deadline.

2026-09-08 to 2027-02-01

The plan

Four phases over 21 weeks. Phases 0 to 2 are the first 13 weeks; Phase 3 is the remaining 8. Phase 0 is a week of unglamorous fixes that everything else compounds on.

Before anything: baseline (Day 0)

Export the Studio analytics for all 17 videos: impressions, CTR, average view duration, traffic sources, 30-second retention. Without the baseline, none of the packaging changes can be judged.

Phase 0

Fix the foundation

Week 1 · Sept 8-14
  1. One name, everywhere. Recommendation: Tartaria Archives, handle @TartariaArchives if free. The 60,500/month keyword sits in the name; YouTube shows a channel row on “tartaria” searches, which is a real discovery path at 76 subs; “tartaria archives” is itself a rising query; “old world” trends down 27% and adds length. Acceptable fallback: Old World Tartaria Archives. Change channel name, handle, description CTA, spoken sign-off and end card the same day. This is Tara’s call; the requirement is one name.
  2. Re-package the top 6 videos only, breakout excluded. New title (≤55 characters, hook first) and new thumbnail (one photo, year stamp or ≤4 words). Prove the packaging on low-view videos first, measure at Day 14 with Test & Compare, then apply to the rest over Weeks 2-4. Do not touch the 973-view breakout until the new packaging has beaten the old on three other videos. It is the only asset with browse history.
  3. Add chapters and upload captions from the scripts to all 17. Replace boilerplate tags with 8-12 per-video tags.
  4. Channel page. Trailer = the breakout re-cut to 60 seconds with the father dedication as the opening line. Sections: “Start here”, “Orphan Trains and Foundlings”, “Fires and Resets”, “World’s Fairs”, “Maps”. About text leads with the dedication and the method.
  5. End screens and pinned comments on every video: one named next video, one playlist, a Hype ask.
  6. Move the five 3-5 minute cut-downs out of the long-form lane. Unlist them and re-cut each as a vertical Short. They are the first five Shorts of Phase 1.
Phase 1

Cadence and format

Weeks 2-6 · Sept 15 to Oct 19
  • Long-form: 1 per week, 30-40 minutes. No model channel runs two a week: Tartaria Vault posts every 4-5 days, Tartaria History every 3-5, Jarid Boosters every 4-8. Niche breakouts skew long (100, 73, 52, 46, 41, 33 minutes; median about 43). Watch hours are the bottleneck and length is the cheapest lever on them. A second weekly upload is allowed only if it does not shorten the first.
  • One long documentary per month, 60-100 minutes. Nomadic Historian (891 subs) took 94,943 views on one 100-minute Tartaria film; History Origins (21,400 subs) took 229k on a 73-minute incubator episode. The first one: the breakout’s material re-cut and expanded to 75 minutes with the comet, the quakes, the fires and the orphan trains as chapters.
  • Shorts: 2 per week, built vertical-first. Compose each from the episode’s source images and one claim, not by cropping the 16:9 edit. The four existing Shorts (19-84 views) were crops. Hooks come from the proven TikTok list. Post the same file to YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels and X. Related Video link on every Short. Note the second Early Access route: 3M Shorts views in 90 days.
  • Hook structure for every long-form: 0-5 s the single strongest photograph with one line of narration; 5-15 s the question and the promise; 15-30 s the stakes. Title card at 30 s, not at 0.
  • Title rules: ≤55 characters; hook before keyword; one of the formulas in section 4; no slashes, no double spaces, no channel-name suffix. Keep “Tartaria” in the title whenever the episode is about it.
  • Thumbnail rules: one image, photo or illustration; sepia or monochrome; year stamp or ≤4 words in one weight; face or monument fills 60% of frame; test two variants.
  • Every video pre-empts one skeptic point on camera. It is the brand: the Tartaria channel that shows you the counter-evidence.
  • Timed content: the Oct 8, 1871 fires anniversary is 32 days out. Publish the Great Fires episode, expanded past 30 minutes with Peshtigo folded in, on Oct 1-3 with the date in the title. Both “peshtigo fire” (9,900/month) and “great chicago fire 1871” (8,100/month) spike that week.
Phase 2

Compounding

Weeks 7-13 · Oct 20 to Dec 7
  • Series format. Package episodes as “The Evidence Files, Ep. N” with a recurring open. Series playlists lift session watch time.
  • The witness format, done honestly. Build episodes around one real primary source: an orphan-train rider’s oral history (Iowa PBS’s version did 471k), a Peshtigo survivor’s account, a 1893 fair visitor’s diary.
  • Check the viral claims on camera. The most-repeated assertions in the X and TikTok data are episodes, not things to avoid: state the claim, show the record, give a verdict. That is the only format in which a 76-sub channel borrows a 16,105-like post’s audience.
  • Off-platform distribution. Post one striking photo per episode with a one-line “this doesn’t look right” caption to r/AlternativeHistory (392,000 members, 89,761 weekly active; single-image posts average 1,901 upvotes), the 129k-member Mudflood/Tartarian Facebook group, and X. r/Tartaria is quarantined, so it is a community to be present in, not a traffic source. Lead with the image, not the link.
  • Breakout protocol. When a video is still climbing on day 7: reply to every comment that day, pin a comment naming the next episode, publish two Shorts from it within 72 hours, and move the next episode on the same topic up the queue.
  • Kill criterion. If no video has cleared 500 views by Day 45 (Oct 23) after the re-packaging, the packaging hypothesis is wrong. Stop, pull the Studio numbers, and re-plan around whichever traffic source is actually delivering.
  • Monetization: apply for Early Access the day the 500 / 3,000 bar is crossed. No Patreon, no tip codes, no memberships in this window.
Phase 3

Hold the line

Weeks 14-21 · Dec 8 to Feb 1
  • Keep the weekly episode and the monthly documentary. Do not add formats.
  • Second pass on packaging for anything still under 200 views.
  • Two anniversary slots: the Great Comet of 1811 (visible Sept to Jan; the New Madrid quakes began Dec 16, 1811) and the Jan 1812 aftershocks.
  • Burnout is the real risk. Two of the three dormant channels in the research were growing when they stopped. One episode a week, finished, beats two started.

What not to do

  • No fantasy-render collages with stacked text (the first four videos). Illustrated art can work, and 6 of the 20 competitor thumbnails use it including the two smallest breakout channels, but only as one image with one idea. The failure mode is the generic AI render plus three lines of headline.
  • No more than one video per topic per week.
  • No “REVEALED / the world just changed forever” clickbait templates. Those are copy-paste engagement farms on X and burn trust with the evidence-first audience.
  • No collabs with the “Putin declassified Tartaria” accounts. Checking their claim on camera is fine; amplifying them is not.
  • No second weekly upload that shortens the first.
KPIs

Targets

Two cases. The base case is what cadence and packaging alone deliver, extrapolated from the channel’s own numbers. The breakout case is what one video at the level small competitors have hit does to the same numbers.

Reference points for the breakout column: Tartaria History took 364k views on 15,400 subs; Nomadic Historian took 95k on 891 subs.

The watch-hour math

A 35-minute video at 25% average view duration yields about 9 minutes per view. 3,000 hours is 180,000 minutes, so roughly 20,000 views. At one episode a week plus one documentary a month that is 17 uploads in 13 weeks, or about 1,200 views each. The channel’s lifetime total is 1,665 views, so the base case does not get there. One breakout does.

The plan is built to make a breakout likely: length, packaging, the viral-claim episodes and the anniversary slot. The 21-week window leaves eight weeks of slack after Day 90.

Weekly review, 15 minutes: CTR and 30-second retention per video in Studio. Kill any format under 3% CTR after two tries. Run the breakout protocol on any video still rising after day 7.

Phase 0 onward

Re-packaging the 17 videos

New title under 55 characters, hook first. New thumbnail: one photo, a year stamp or four words at most. Week 1 does the six rows with 50+ views; the rest follow in Weeks 2-4 once the Day 14 numbers are in.

Do not chase

  • “NESARA”, “tartaria 2030”, Melania-as-Romanov, “Satan’s little season”: rising queries and 3,000-10,000-like posts, but they are engagement-farm and QAnon-adjacent lanes. They burn the evidence-first audience and invite the wrong comments.
  • “Mr Tartaria” (+38,700%) is a creator-name query, not a topic.
  • Flat-earth framing: “flat earth map” rises under tartaria (+15,950%) but it is a separate community with its own channels; the firmament episode (E4) is as close as the channel should go.
